This series comprises chocolate trade cards introduced by the French brand Guérin-Boutron. Trade cards were a prevalent promotional tool, particularly from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. These cards typically feature advertisements, illustrations, or images related to the company’s products, aiming to promote goods and enhance brand recognition.

Established in Paris, France, in AD 1775, Guérin-Boutron was a luxury brand renowned for its vanilla chocolate (and solubia chocolate), receiving gold awards at the 1889 and 1900 World Expositions. Notably, this information is also included on the reverse side of these trade cards.

Guérin-Boutron was an early adopter of color lithographic images on chocolate products, often portraying historical or popular scenes, released in smaller series.

This particular series consists of 84 trade cards depicting various historical illustrations on the obverse side, with the medal names and styles on the left.

The reverse side of each card provides historical information, including the addresses of the company’s production facilities and two retail stores in Paris. Additionally, various promotional brand slogans are featured at the bottom.
