This is a “Xuantong Silver Coin” mechanically minted by the Kashgar Mint in southern Xinjiang during the first (AD 1909) to second year (AD 1909) of the Xuantong era. It was produced exclusively in the denomination of 5 Mace. During the Xuantong reign, the Kashgar Mint issued three types of silver coins: Great Qing Silver Coin, Xuantong Silver Coin, and Xuantong Yuanbao.
The obverse side of the coin features two concentric bead circles, with a central design surrounded by pentagonal star motifs. In the order of top, bottom, right, and left, the Chinese characters “宣統銀幣” (Xuantong Silver Coin) are inscribed. Around the outer edge, the minting location “喀什造” (Struck in Kashgar) and the denomination “五錢” (5 Mace) are engraved at the top and sides, respectively. At the bottom edge, there is a faint Uyghur inscription “ضرب كاشقر بەش مىشكال”, which also identifies the minting location as Kashgar and the denomination as 5 Mace.
The reverse side of the coin shows significant wear on the right side, but the details remain recognizable. At the very center, enclosed within a beaded circle, is a five-clawed coiled dragon surrounded by four five-pointed stars. Between the outermost beaded circle and a solid outer ring, there is a continuous floral pattern serving as decorative embellishment.
