This coin is a 1 Thaler silver coin minted during the reign of King Maximilian I Joseph of the Kingdom of Bavaria.
The obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile portrait of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, surrounded by the Latin inscription “MAXIMILIANUS IOSEPHUS BAVARIAE REX,” which means “King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria.”
The reverse side depicts crossed war hammers and a sword with a crown above, flanked by the Latin inscription “PRO DEO ET POPULO,” meaning “For God and the People.” The year of minting, “1813”, is inscribed at the bottom of the coin.
Maximilian I Joseph was the first King of Bavaria, reigning from AD 1806 to AD 1825. Prior to AD 1806, he was the Elector of Bavaria. By allying with Napoleon, Bavaria was able to transition from an electorate to an independent kingdom.
Elector And Electorate: An Elector was a special noble title in the Holy Roman Empire, referring to those nobles who held the power to elect the Holy Roman Emperor. Electors typically consisted of seven individuals, including archbishops and nobles from various regions or states. An Electorate was the territory governed by these Electors. The Electors formed alliances and competed with one another, thereby maintaining a balance of power and political stability within the Empire.
