This is a 5-cent silver coin issued by Canada in AD 1893, as a member of the British Empire Dominion. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria wearing a laurel wreath, depicted in her youth, despite her actual age being 74 at the time. Surrounding the portrait is the Latin inscription “Victoria Queen by the Grace of God,” with the name of Canada inscribed in English at the bottom. The reverse side displays the denomination and year of manufacture “1893,” with maple leaf branches, symbolic of Canada, on both sides, and the crown representing Queen Victoria at the top.

In AD 1867, the British Parliament passed the British North America Act, which granted Canada the status of the first Dominion within the British Empire. Canada remained as such until AD 1982 when it achieved full independence through the passage of the Canada Act of 1982. Despite this independence, Canada still maintains the British monarch as its ceremonial head of state.
