The medal is surmounted by the imperial crown. It was to be worn suspended from the left breast by a dark blue ribbon.
The Kaisar-i-Hind medal during George V’s reign could be divided into two types:

2nd Type | Solid badge | Within India |
The Kaisar-i-Hind Medal for Public Service in India was a medal awarded by the British monarch between AD 1900 and AD 1947. It was awarded to civilians of any nationality who rendered distinguished service in the advancement of the interests of British India.
The name, Kaisar-i-Hind, means “Emperor of India” in the vernacular of the Hindi and Urdu languages. The word “Kaisar”, meaning “Emperor” is a derivative of the Roman imperial title Caesar. It is also cognate with the German title Kaiser, which was borrowed from Latin.
The medal was instituted by Queen Victoria on 10 April AD 1900. The title of Empress of India or Kaisar-i-Hind was assumed by Victoria from 1 May AD 1876 and proclaimed at the Delhi Durbar of AD 1877. Following Victoria, the Queen Empress, were the King Emperors, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII (abdicated ), and George VI. The Royal Warrant for the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal was amended in AD 1901, AD 1912, AD 1933, and AD 1939, and while never formally rescinded, the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal ceased to be awarded following the passage of the Indian Independence Act AD 1947. In Independent India, the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal was replaced by Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, which were created by the government of the Republic of India in AD 1954.
The Kaisar-i-Hind Medal for Public Service in India was divided into three grades by George V. On 15 December AD 1933, a new Royal Warrant expanded the medal, adding a third class in bronze. The Gold medal was awarded directly by the monarch on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for India. Silver and Bronze medals were awarded by the Viceroy.
The awards of the gold medal were often published in the London Gazette, while other classes were published in the Gazette of India.
