This coin is a 10 cents silver coin minted at the Cangxiazhou site in the Nantai of Fuzhou, the provincial capital, during thefirst two years of the Republic of China (AD 1911-1913), following the practices of the “Fookien Official Bureau” established in the 26th year of the Guangxu era (AD 1900). Both sides of the coin feature serrated edges. As the Republic was established, Fujian Province, drawing inspiration from Guangdong Province, minted 10-cents and 20-cents silver coins, replicating their design entirely for coins of the same denomination in Fujian Province. Apart from the difference in denomination, the design of the two coins is identical.
The obverse of the coin features a beaded circle, within which resides an Arabic numeral “10” adorned with geometric curves in its center. The upper part of the beaded circle bears the English inscription “FOO-KIEN PROVINCE” spelled in the Wade-Giles system. The lower part displays the denomination “7.2 CANDAREENS” in English. On both sides of the obverse and reverse, there is a decorative motif consisting of a four-petal flower.
The reverse side likewise features a beaded circle, with the central area displaying the Chinese inscription “10 Cents Silver Coin ” in regular script, encircling a central dot. The upper part of the beaded circle is inscribed with “Fookien Official Bureau” in Chinese, while the lower part indicates the weight denomination “7.2 Candareens”.
