This is a gold coin minted in the 14th year of the Republic of China (AD 1925), during a period of chaos marked by the fragmentation of power among warlords. Amidst the turmoil of the Yunnan-Guangxi War, Yunnanese warlord Fan Shisheng, upon entering Baise in Guangxi Province, minted this coin to pay his soldiers.

The coin features a reeded edge. On the obverse, the denomination “Five-Yuan Gold Coin” is inscribed in a clockwise order: top, bottom, right, and left, surrounding a central six-point floral design, with a bead circle decorating the outer edge. The reverse side displays a pair of intertwined rice stalks, symbolising prosperity, along with the abbreviation for Yunnan Province, “Dian”(滇). This side is also encircled by a bead design.

Fan Shisheng, a member of the Tongmenghui, enrolled at the Yunnan Military Academy during the late Qing Dynasty and participated in the “Jiujiu Uprising,” a local Yunnan response to the Wuchang Uprising. This involvement positioned him as a key military leader in Yunnan in the early years of the Republic of China. In AD 1925, during the early stages of the Yunnan-Guangxi War, Fan initially achieved success but suffered defeat due to internal mutiny. He found temporary refuge in Guangxi, with the support of Li Zongren’s New Guangxi Clique. Later, Fan joined the Nationalist Government’s campaigns in the Northern Expedition and the suppression of communist forces. In AD 1937, he retired from political and military affairs in Kunming but was assassinated in AD 1939 at the age of 52.

這是一枚民國14年(公元1925年)，中國面臨軍閥割據的混亂時局之際，滇系將領范石生在滇桂戰爭期間，於進入廣西省百色之際，為支付手下官兵的軍餉所鑄造的金幣。

錢幣側邊帶有齒圈。錢幣正面有圍繞中間的六點花飾，按上、下、右、左順序打印的「伍元金幣」面額字樣，周圍以珠圈為飾。錢幣背面是一對打結的嘉禾，並且打印雲南簡稱「滇」字樣，周圍亦有一道珠圈。

范石生為同盟會會員，於清末考入雲南陸軍講武堂，並參與雲南當地響應武昌起義的「重九起義」，成為民國初年雲南地方的重要軍事將領。公元1925年，范石生於滇桂戰爭初期有所斬獲，但因內部出現譁變導致潰敗，獲得李宗仁為首的新桂系同情暫駐於廣西境內。後續范石生參與國民政府主導的北伐和剿共，於公元1937年返回昆明不問政事，但於公元1939年遭到刺殺，享年52歲。
