This 10 Cash coin is a Double Flag Coin minted by Henan Province. The obverse side is divided into inner and outer circles. The inner circle features the Chinese characters “十文” (Ten Cash) combined with two rice ears. The outer circle has “中華民國” (Republic of China) at the top and “河南省造” (Minted by Henan Province) at the bottom, with hibiscus flowers on either side. The absence of a pendant on the hibiscus flowers is a key feature distinguishing this coin from another version with pendant hibiscus flowers
The reverse side has the English inscription “Ho-nan” at the top edge and “TEN CASH” at the bottom edge. The centre is dominated by two crossed Five-Coloured Flags, tied together. Each side of the flags is adorned with a lotus pattern.
Among the myriad of copper coins from the Republic era, the Henan copper coins have a distinctive style. Apart from the fifty-cash and hundred-cash coins minted in the 20th year of the Republic, all other Henan copper coins predominantly feature the abundant harvest design on the obverse and the double-flag design on the reverse. Due to the consistent use of the double-flag design, these coins are colloquially known as Henan Double-Flag Coins.
