The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of King Franz Joseph I standing, facing right, and wearing a cloak. Surrounding the portrait is the Hungarian inscription “FERENCZ JÓZSEF I.K.A.CS. ÉS M.H.S.D.O.AP.KIR.”, which translates to “Francis Joseph I, by the grace of God Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, Croatia, Slavonia, and Dalmatia”. Below the portrait, the year of minting of this coin “1894” is inscribed.

On the reverse side is the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hungary, with the Hungarian inscription “MAGYAR KIRÁLYSÁG” (Kingdom of Hungary) above it. Below the coat of arms is the inscription “10 KORONA K.B”, denoting the face value of the coin as 10 korona, and the engraver’s mark of Károly Gerl.

Coat Of Arms Of Hungary:
The coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hungary consists of a large shield emblem composed of seven distinct territories: Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Transylvania, Rijeka, Bosnia, and the Kingdom of Hungary. Additionally, the shield bears the Holy Crown of Hungary, with angels holding shields on either side.

Franz Joseph I (AD 1830-AD 1916) was the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and one of the longest-reigning monarchs in European history. He ascended to the throne in AD 1848 during a period of significant upheaval in Europe, including the revolutions of that year. His empire’s annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in AD 1908, following the Young Turk Revolution in the Ottoman Empire, contributed to tensions in the Balkans. After the assassination of his nephew, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in AD 1914, Franz Joseph I reluctantly declared war on Serbia, setting off a chain of events that led to World War I.
