The Kadambas dynasty in Goa rose to prominence in the 11th century, reaching its zenith during the reign of Jayakesin II in the 12th century. During this period, Goa served as a pivotal center for trade.

Under the rule of the Kadambas dynasty in Goa, gold coins were predominantly minted. These coins typically featured a lion facing left on the obverse and bore the name of the king inscribed in Sanskrit on the reverse.
