This coin, a denarius, was minted and issued by the Roman Republic in the year 126 BC.

The obverse of the coin features the helmeted head of a Roman, with the symbol “Ӿ” positioned on the lower right. This mark represents a combination of the Roman numerals XVI, symbolising that the denomination of this denarius is equivalent to sixteen asses. The reverse depicts the legendary Dioscuri brothers, Castor and Pollux, also helmeted, wielding spears and mounted on horseback. Below, the inscription “TQ ROMA” appears, where “TQ” abbreviates the name of the Roman consul Titus Quinctius Flamininus. Between the letters TQ, a Macedonian shield is depicted, signifying Titus’s victory over the Kingdom of Macedonia at the Battle of Cynoscephalae.

Titus Quinctius Flamininus, a Roman general and consul, was born in 228 BC and elected consul in 198 BC. He commanded the Roman forces during their campaign against the Kingdom of Macedonia and achieved a decisive victory over King Philip V in the Battle of Cynoscephalae, a pivotal battle of the Second Macedonian War.

Dioscuri:
The Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, are twin brothers from ancient Greek and Roman mythology, commonly referred to together as the Dioscuri. Legend has it that the brothers appeared in a battle to assist the Roman army and rode to bring news of victory back to Rome, initiating Roman worship of them. Consequently, their likenesses are engraved on some Roman artefacts.

Denarius:
The denarius was a small silver coin introduced by ancient Rome around 211 BC and was one of the most common currencies in circulation until it was gradually replaced by the Antoninianus in the mid-3rd century during the Roman Empire.

(Dioscuri):

(Denarius):
