This is a twenty-cent silver coin minted in the 24th year of Guangxu (AD 1898) by the Fengtian Arsenal in Fengtian Province (present-day Liaoning Province). The obverse features a five-clawed coiled dragon with spiral cloud patterns emanating from its mouth, surrounded by the minting year and location information in a counterclockwise direction. The reverse has a beaded circle in the centre, within which the denomination “Twenty Cents” is inscribed in Chinese characters. The Manchu inscription encircling the outside of the beaded circle translates to “Made by the Great Qing Fengtian Arsenal.”

In the 22nd year of Guangxu (AD 1896), Yiktang Ah, the then General of Shengjing, proposed to the court to follow the example of Guangdong and Hubei by establishing a machinery bureau in Fengtian to address the shortage of silver currency. In the 23rd year of Guangxu (AD 1897), the factory began production and minted “Guangxu Yuan Pao”. By the 24th year of Guangxu (AD 1898), it started minting silver coins in four denominations: one dollar, 50 cents, 20 cents, and 10 cents, each featuring a Manchu inscription around the edge. The Fengtian Arsenal has experienced the late Qing dynasty, the Republic of China, the puppet state of Manchukuo, and the People’s Republic of China, and is known today as “Shenyang Mint Co., Ltd.”, directly subordinate to the People’s Bank of China.

這是一枚光緒24年(公元1898年)，由奉天省(今 遼寧省一帶)「奉天機器局」鑄造之二角銀幣。正面為一隻五爪蟠龍，正中央有從龍口吐出的螺旋狀雲紋，周圍則是逆時針方向環繞的鑄造年份和地點資訊。硬幣背面中間有一道珠圈，珠圈內側以中文直書「二角」面額。珠圈外側環鑄的滿文，其意為「大清奉天機器局造」。

光緒22年(公元1896年)，時任盛京將軍的依克唐阿為解決奉天缺乏銀錢的困境，奏請朝廷師法廣東和湖北在當地設立機器局。光緒23年(公元1897年)，工廠率先投入生產鑄造「光緒元寶」。光緒24年(公元1898年)，開始鑄造背面帶有滿文外圈特色的「一圓、五角、二角、一角」四種面額的銀圓。奉天機器局歷經晚清、民國、偽滿和中共，時至今日稱作「瀋陽造幣有限公司」直屬於中國人民銀行。
