The Great Qing Copper Coin was a machine-struck copper coin that circulated during the late Qing Dynasty. Due to the chaotic state of circulation of the Guangxu Yuan Pao, the Qing government, in the 31st year of the Guangxu reign (AD 1905), undertook measures to reorganize the currency system. As part of this initiative, the minting of the Great Qing Copper Coin was mandated to replace the Guangxu Yuan Pao. The government established specifications for the design, composition, and weight, aiming for a more standardized production across different regions. This particular coin was minted by the Ministry of Revenue in the 32nd year of Guangxu (AD 1906).

The obverse side displays a coiled dragon pattern within the inner bead circle, surrounded by the inscription “Made in the Guangxu era.” The outer bead circle bears the inscription “TAI-CHING-TI-KUO COPPER COIN” Both sides are equipped with inner serrations, while the coin edge remains smooth.

The reverse of the coin features an inner bead circle inscribed with the homophonic character “Da Qing Tong Bi” (Great Qing Copper Coin). The outer bead circle is adorned with Manchu script, denoting the year of Guangxu’s reign and featuring the characters “bing”(丙) and “wu”(午) on either side, symbolizing the cyclical calendar years. Below, the coin is stamped with the denomination “Twenty wen in standard currency,” flanked by the characters “Hu” (戶)and “Bu”(部) on the left and right sides, respectively. In the centre, there is a depiction of the character “Su,”(蘇) representing the mint location.

大清銅幣是清代末期流通的機製銅幣，由於光緒元寶流通狀況混亂，光緒31年(公元1905年)清廷為整頓幣制，規定改鑄「大清銅幣」以取代「光緒元寶」，並針對其式樣、成色、重量進行規範，各地鑄造較為統一。此件為光緒32年(公元1906年)戶部所鑄大清銅幣。

正面的珠圈內為團形蟠龍紋，珠圈外上環「光緒年造」，下環「TAI-CHING-TI-KUO COPPER COIN（大清帝國銅幣）」，雙面皆具內齒，幣邊光滑。背面的珠圈內為「大清銅幣」四字對讀，珠圈外上環滿文，意為光緒年造，紀年「丙」、「午」字樣分列兩側，下鑄幣值「當制錢二十文」，左右各有「戶」、「部」二字。中心鑄有代表造地的「蘇」。
